Pashtuns condemn the killing of Sitara Achakzai of Kandahar Afghanistan

We call on Canadians and others around the world to condemn the killing of Sitara Achakzai by the Taliban. This horrific tragedy is another demonstration the Taliban's fight against the liberation of women in Afghanistan.

(The following is a press release from the Pashtun Peace Forum - Canada)

Toronto-Canada (March 13, 2009) - The Pashtun community living in Canada and the Pashtun Peace Forum Canada held a meeting in St. Catharine Naigra region yesterday and discussed the killing of another  Pashtun daughter and mother - Sitara Achakzai who was killed by Taliban in Kandahar-Afghanistan.

We  want to remind Canada and the international community that the security forces of Pakistan are weakening Pashtuns and reducing their ability to confront Taliban militants. According to reports, Taliban are  using Quetta - Baluchistan as a base to attack Kandahar – Afghanistan this summer and plans to creat chaso there before presidential elections in August.  We also fear that the killing of the Achakzai is a clear message for Pashtun women to abandon their struggle for peace, liberty and prosperity of their children and families or face the consequences.

We call upon Canada and the free world to provide support to Pashtuns to counter Taliban. Pashtuns community living in Canada express our sympathies with the families of Achakzai and call upon Canada, UN,US,  the regional players, and the international community to ensure that Pakistan halt supporting Taliban immediately.
